Treatise On Christian Baptism: Relating To The Mode Of Baptism, To The Subjects, To The Import, Design, And Use Of Infant Baptism, And To Close Communion [Pond, Enoch] on *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Treatise On Christian Baptism: Relating To The Mode Of Baptism, To The Subjects, To The Import, DesignAuthor: Enoch Pond.   TITLE:”The Meaning of Baptism” Introduction: There is a lot of confusion about the subject of baptism. Men teach a number of different things about baptism. Some go to seed on the subject while others ignore it altogether. The story is told of the preacher who went to pastor a particular church. He was one who was fond of preaching on water Author: George Bannister.

This tremendous collection of classic works on baptism presents the history, biblical testimony, and systematic treatment on this topic of perennial importance from eminent scholars and pastors on each side of the debate. What is the biblical mode of baptism: immersion, sprinkling, pouring, or dipping. There are few subjects more controversial, more divisive or more abused in Christendom today than the doctrine of baptism. By many Christians baptism is relegated to a place of virtual insignificance. By others it is totally ignored as a nonessential. By still others it is regarded as the entrance into church membership. Some esteem it to be an indispensable condition for one’s salvation.

First, baptism is a divine command (Acts ) given by the Lord. To classify it as a work of human merit disdained in Ephesians is a gross form of wickedness. Second, if baptism is a work of human merit, then those who receive it, believing that it is “for the remission of sins,” have trusted in the wrong Savior and thus remain lost.   Why do you think baptism is controversial and what approaches can be used to study it without harsh divides? The noun that is used is baptismos, and baptismos, always, in the book of Acts, refers to a Christian being immersed into water. So linguistically, the terminology always refers to immersion or submerging in water.

In fact, baptism became a technical term for immersion so that it was transliterated rather than translated – to translate means. So glad I discovered this book! I wanted to know more about the subject of baptism, specifically about the mode of baptism (sprinkle or immersion?) and infant baptism (commanded by God or no?).
